Volkswagen Rolls Out New Transporter T5 California Edition

Special Editions / 9 Comments

VW has created the ultimate California camper van for the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon.

The Caravan Auto Salon kicks off next month in Dusseldorf, Germany, and Volkswagen was not about to arrive at the show empty handed. The automaker has plans to bring a special edition of its T5 Transporter to the event, the first photos of which have just made their way into the CarBuzz offices. Called the California Edition, the new T5 will (somewhat ironically) be sold exclusively in Europe and utilize the van's standard range of engines.

These include three diesel engines along with a pair of gasoline units, ranging from 101 horsepower up to 201. Some tweaks to the exterior of the camper van have been made, however the majority of the action takes place inside. The California Edition T5 is available with either the Beach or Comfortline trim and features a stove, sink and storage space along with a sleeping pad. The front door features new striping, as do the door handles, roof and front bumper.

The special edition camper van features some matte black touches around the outside as well and rides on a set of 17-inch alloy wheels. Volkswagen has only announced pricing for the Transporter California Edition in Germany, with the Beach model starting at €42,369.95 and the Comfortline starting at €56,287.
