Volkswagen Tiguan Spied In Sweden With Fresh Face

Spy Shots / Comments

VW will update the Tiguan for 2023 with a totally "new" model.

The next-gen Volkswagen Tiguan is out for winter testing, sporting fresh changes to the Volkswagen SUV.

Seen here in Sweden, the Tiguan will be a "new" model, though we're not sure to what extent after a 2022 refresh. We're fresh out of x-ray specs, but the new Tiguan is sporting some changes we can see.

VW employed some clever stickers to make the new Tiguan look like the old one, but this 2024 model benefits from substantial structural changes, like new doors, that can't be hidden with tape. However, the stickers hide the shape of the new lights and grille. Again, some stuff can't be hidden, and it's easy to tell what's new here.

The grille has a totally new shape, from top to bottom. VW will update the lower fascia with new (and functional!) vent work, a larger mouth, and some slightly slimmer headlights. Unfortunately, the stickers hide much of the upper part of the grille. As we'd mentioned above, the Tiguan's doors are new, and it appears the design, if not the housing, of the mirror is new too.

Though the Tiguan's profile won't change much, it appears some changes have been made to the door lowers, which may or may not sport the trim you see here. We imagine that could change based on the Tiguan's new trim levels.

Changes are a bit more subtle around back. It appears the lower fascia will get some reworking, but the extent of that work isn't clear from these images. Earlier photos do show that the exhaust has been rerouted to underneath the car, at least. Here, the "tips" are just stickers, much like the front of the car.

We're expecting a number of combustion engine options for the new Tiguan, including some level of mild-hybrid technology. An electric version could also come down the line. We can also see a 4Motion badge, indicating AWD as an option.

Inside, a large central screen now handles climate and radio functions. Let's hope it is at least better executed than the Golf and ID.4's screen system. We expect a late 2023 debut for the 2024 model year.
