Volvo XC40 Prototype Put Through its Paces in Southern Europe

Volvo’s latest crossover is getting closer to production.

The Volvo XC40 compact crossover has been spotted in Norway completely undisguised in a set of blurry photos, however our intrepid spy photographers have caught the new model testing in full camo around the roads of Southern Europe. The XC40 will provide direct competition to the Audi Q3, MINI Countryman and the BMW X1 both in terms of styling and pricing. It features a raised suspension and a lineup of engines taken from the V40 both in gasoline and diesel forms.

A top-of-the-line 250hp T5 engine should be good enough to propel the XC40 from 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds. The Volvo XC40 is basically the high-riding version of the V40 wagon and it should make its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September.
