Volvo has rolled out its intuitive Android-powered infotainment system to the XC60, S90, V90, and V90 Cross Country.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge marks the start of a new era for the Swedish automaker in more ways than one. Not only is it Volvo's first fully electric model, but it's also the first Volvo car equipped with a new infotainment system powered by the Google Android operating system. Before the XC40 Recharge, the Android-powered infotainment system debuted in the Polestar 2. As part of a series of 2022 model-year updates, Volvo has added the Android infotainment system to the XC60, S90, V90, and V90 Cross Country.
Developed in collaboration with Google, Volvo's new infotainment system allows drivers to access Google apps and services such as Google Maps and Google Assistant, making it one of the most intuitive infotainment systems on the market.
To offer an experience similar to Android-powered smartphones but adapted for hands-free operation while driving, all Volvo cars with the Android-powered infotainment system will include a new Digital Services package providing access to Google apps and services, the Volvo On Call app, a wireless phone charger, and "all data required to run the services."
Using Google Assistant, drivers can use voice commands to control the cabin temperature, set a destination on Google Maps, play music and podcasts, and send messages while still keeping their hands on the wheel. Additional music and media apps optimized for Volvo's infotainment system such as Spotify can also be downloaded from Google Play.
In addition to the new infotainment system, the XC60, S90, V90, and V90 Cross Country have been updated with the latest Advanced Driver Assistance active safety tech featuring radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. New exterior colors and upholstery options are also available including a leather-free interior option for all Volvo 60-series models and the XC40 Recharge.
For the 2022 model year, the Volvo XC60's exterior has also been subtle refined with a new bumper, an updated grille, and new wheel options. Production of the 2022 Volvo XC60 will start in May, with pricing to be confirmed at a later date.
