Speaking with Carsales, Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan confirmed that the new 2024 Volvo EX30 will arrive "June the 15th or something this year."

The EX30 will be a new entry-level compact electric crossover positioned below the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge to capture younger buyers. The EX30 and the larger Volvo EX90 will enter production in 2023, so the June timeline seems plausible.

"The age demographic that we have at Volvo is a lot older than we would like; we'd like to get some more younger people into the brand," said Rowan. "That [EX30] will be a really nice price point, I think, for an entry point - very safe, decent range, good size still but smaller than the [XC]40."

"We can talk to completely different demographics, for the first time probably, and that younger demographic will probably be the ones who shop more online," he added. Volvo is already well-positioned to target a younger audience since it only sells the C40 Recharge online.

Rowan also believes the EX30 could appeal to older buyers who "don't have a lot of mileage" to drive and already have a charger at home. By this description, we imagine the EX30's range will be less than the XC40 and C40, especially after their most recent update.

As a reminder, the XC40 and C40 Recharge now go up to 270 and 275 miles, respectively, using a new 82 kWh battery.

Volvo believes that massive battery packs are not the solution to solve range anxiety. "As soon as you put the infrastructure in, the range is no longer a problem," Rowan explained. "So now what we're looking at is that you don't want to be putting in 100 kWh batteries in a lot of cars, you want to be putting in a 50 [or] a 30 kWh. As long as you're comfortable enough that you can charge at home or the shop, and there's decent infrastructure, why would you put in more cost and more weight?"

Aside from a brief teaser during the EX90 reveal, we don't have many more details about the upcoming EX30. We will continue to provide more information as Volvo releases it.
