Buyers contemplating a Beetle could do well to hold tight for another twelve months as VW has confirmed the Beetle convertible will go on sale in early 2013. According to Car and Driver, the roofless Beetle will be offered with the same powertrain options as the coupe: a 170hp 2.5-liter unit will be in the base car, a forced-induction Turbo with a 2.0-liter four-pot, rated at 200hp and 207lb-ft of torque and a 140hp, 236lb-ft TDI diesel. A six-speed DSG and six-speed manual will also be on the menu.
As the only diesel convertible available in the US and with VW diesel's flying out the lots, the roadster Bug won't sit around showrooms for too long. If you prefer the hardtop, then the Beetle TDI coupe goes on sale in the summer. As for the convertible, the car is expected to debut at the LA Auto Show in November, with photos due to be released in the next couple of months.
