Following a pair of sketches, VW has revealed the first pictures of the Beetle Dune Concept that our people on the ground say is poised for production. Mimicking both the design and color of the original Beetle Dune Concept unveiled back in 2000, the new Dune has been revealed with plenty of detailed information adding more weight to the rumor the concept will one day be seen rolling over a bumpy desert landscape or, more likely, cruising through Cali.

It's go-anywhere capabilities include a raised ground clearance of two inches, protective plates, flared wheel arches and beefy alloys. The Dune concept will arrive in Detroit with a pair of skis bolted to the roof. Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbo-four that sends 208 hp to the front wheels via a DSG six-speed dual-clutch transmission and electronic differential. 0-60 mph is a claimed 7.5 seconds, while fuel economy is 23/29 mpg city/highway.
