These spy shots demonstrate VW is set to unveil a wagon version of the potent Golf R. Based on the Golf Variant (better known as the Jetta Sportswagen in the US), the Golf R Variant, will come with the same 300-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four found in the Golf R hatch mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic unit and the latest evolution of the Haldex 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. With the manual, the Golf R Variant will be good for a 5.5-second 0-62 mph time, while a lowered suspension and upgraded brakes will keep the hi-po wagon in check.

The muscular styling of the Golf R's body kit will carry over to the Variant, with an aggressive front bumper, LED lights, side skirts, a trunk-mounted spoiler and quad exhaust pipes. Large alloys wrapped in low-profile rubber will round off the look. Inside, drivers will find a race-inspired cockpit, leather sports seats, carbon-fiber trim, a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel and optional 5.8-inch touch screen. Expect the Golf R Variant to debut at the Paris Motor Show in October before going on sale in Europe next year. However, don't expect it to make the trip Stateside.
