Is anyone here missing the Polo GTI hot hatch?
In the US, Golf GTI fans who want something smaller don't have the Polo GTI as an alternative. Across the pond, however, Volkswagen continues to offer the sporty hatchback and has now introduced a limited model called the Edition 25, commemorating the Polo GTI's 25th anniversary globally.
Although the Polo model range has not been sold in the US since its birth in 1975, it's nice to think that the model soldiers on in other markets, especially the hotter Polo GTI. Here are the details of the hot hatch we're missing.
The Polo GTI Edition 25 comes with various kits that set it apart from the standard model, featuring exclusive details and striking elements. It is available in two classic colors: Pure White and Deep Black Pearl Effect, complemented by a set of 18-inch Brescia alloy wheels in a matte anthracite finish for a stealthy look.
Under the hood, the Polo GTI Edition 25 packs a 2.0-liter TSI engine that delivers 204 horsepower, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. The vehicle boasts a top speed of 149 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds.
Inside, the Polo GTI Edition 25 hints at its athletic aspirations, featuring sports seats with an exclusive fabric pattern and red contrast stitching. The multifunction steering wheel comes with red stitching as well, and the GTI gear knob further enhances the sporty character of the vehicle.
For technology and connectivity, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is equipped with the latest generation of Volkswagen's Digital Cockpit. With a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, it allows easy access to functions and connectivity options such as App-Connect and Volkswagen's We Connect services.
The Polo GTI Edition 25 also comes with a comprehensive set of advanced driver assistance systems, such as front assist with city emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring, blind spot monitor, and rear traffic alert.
If you think that we're missing a lot with this limited edition model, don't fret; we'll just have to wait another 25 years before one can import the Polo GTI Edition 25 onto US shores.
