Volkswagen seems to think that its new 10-speed DSG gearboxrepresents one of the wildest cards up its sleeve. The company promises thatthe revolutionary transmission will make cars faster and more fun to drive, whileoffering lower running costs and better fuel efficiency. Company executives alsopromise that the new gearbox will be able to handle up to 370 lb-ft of torque,making it perfect for upcoming performance models like the crazy Golf R 400Concept.
On run-of-the-mill models, the new DSG will be mated withnew 3-cylinder and diesel engines, offering even better emissions figures. Thegearbox is currently undergoing prototype testing on various models, and shouldbe ready for the road by 2016. VW joins other companies like Hyundai, GeneralMotors and Ford, all rumored to be working on various renditions of 10-speed DSGs for upcomingmodels.
