Volkswagen seems to think that its new 10-speed DSG gearbox represents one of the wildest cards up its sleeve. The company promises that the revolutionary transmission will make cars faster and more fun to drive, while offering lower running costs and better fuel efficiency. Company executives also promise that the new gearbox will be able to handle up to 370 lb-ft of torque, making it perfect for upcoming performance models like the crazy Golf R 400 Concept.

On run-of-the-mill models, the new DSG will be mated with new 3-cylinder and diesel engines, offering even better emissions figures. The gearbox is currently undergoing prototype testing on various models, and should be ready for the road by 2016. VW joins other companies like Hyundai, General Motors and Ford, all rumored to be working on various renditions of 10-speed DSGs for upcoming models.
