Stylish hatchback refreshed; hitting European showrooms this summer.
While an all-new replacement is currently in the works, Volkswagen has deemed it time to give the six-year-old third-gen Scirocco a facelift. The updated stylish three-door hatch will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month with modest styling tweaks and engine upgrades. Exterior enhancements include a revised front bumper with integrated blades, new bi-xenon headlights with LED DRLs, and a revised grille.
The rear is refreshed with new LED taillights, a reworked bumper and boot lid with pop-out VW badge handle. The same changes carry over to the Scirocco R, which also benefits from a larger rear spoiler, matte chrome mirror caps and new alloys. The refreshed interior comes with dash-top gauges as a throwback to the first-gen Scirocco, a new instrument cluster, carbon-look trim, a new media system, a flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel and new bucket seats. New tech goodies include VW's ParkAssist parking system and a Dynaudio Excite sound system.
From the 125-hp 14 TSI to the 280-hp 2.0 TSI motors, engine upgrades across the board include the addition of stop/start and battery regeneration mode as standard (save for the Scirocco R). Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual or optional dual-clutch DSG. The 2014 VW Scirocco will go on sale in Europe this summer, before being rolled out to other markets – the US not being one of them.
