Leading up to an American market launch in 2015.
Volkswagen has announced that it will bring a station wagon model of its successful Golf to the New York Auto Show this weekend, previewing the 2015 Sportwagen that it plans to sell in the US. The production model, which the company promises will provide “a sportier alternative to compact SUVs” will offer a long list of standard equipment, including 18-inch aluminum wheels, automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof and bi-xenon headlights.
The Sportwagen will be powered by two engine choices: a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine making 170 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter TDI that will produce 150hp. The latter will be mated to a six-speed manual or DSG transmission, and the former to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic. The diesel model will also be available with 4Motion all-wheel drive. VW will build the US spec models in its Mexican plant.
