Volkswagen has announced that it will bring a station wagonmodel of its successful Golf to the New York Auto Show this weekend, previewingthe 2015 Sportwagen that it plans to sell in the US. The production model, whichthe company promises will provide “a sportier alternative to compact SUVs” willoffer a long list of standard equipment, including 18-inch aluminum wheels,automatic climate control, a panoramic sunroof and bi-xenon headlights.
The Sportwagen will be powered by two engine choices: aturbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine making 170 horsepower, and a2.0-liter TDI that will produce 150hp. The latter will be mated to a six-speedmanual or DSG transmission, and the former to a five-speed manual or six-speedautomatic. The diesel model will also be available with 4Motion all-wheeldrive. VW will build the US spec models in its Mexican plant.
