Scratch Chicago. The new Mazda MX-5 is going to be unveiled in the Big Apple next month.
This one is coming as a complete surprise, especially since Mazda already announced that its new MX-5 will debut at Chicago next year. That’s no longer the case apparently. According to Autoweek, who has confirmed this news with Mazda officials, the all-new MX-5 will be shown at the New York Auto Show next month. Originally the plan was to unveil it at Chicago next March, exactly 25 years after the original debuted at the same show.
However, don’t expect to see the fourth-gen MX-5 on the road until sometime next year. So why did Mazda suddenly change its mind and move up the MX-5’s debut? No official reason has been given yet, but for one thing New York is a bigger and more relevant event than Chicago. In addition, Mazda has been on a roll lately with extremely well received new models like the 3 and 6. It makes complete sense to keep the momentum going. We’ll have more details for you the moment they’re announced.
