The most powerful Roush-tuned Ford Mustang to date finally has a definitive price tag: $50,995. That's the sum you'll need to spend on top of the donor Mustang GT's $36,000-plus purchase price to get the ferocious, Shelby-fighting 2020 Jack Roush Edition Ford Mustang, but it might just be worth it..

The 2020 Jack Roush Edition Mustang puts out a heart-stopping 775 horsepower and 670 lb-ft of torque with the help of a Ford Performance Roush supercharger kit, allowing the car to rocket to 60 mph in as little as 3.4 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in a scant 10.7 seconds. Just as important, it can pull up to 1.14 Gs on the skidpad, proving that straight-line performance wasn't the only thing in Roush's crosshairs for this car.

But is it really a properly good alternative to the Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, which leaves the factory with a supercharged 5.2L V8 pumping 760 noble horses through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic? It depends what your priorities are. At a minimum of $87,000 or so, the 2020 Jack Roush Edition Mustang is some ten grand more expensive to start than the Shelby GT500, and that's assuming you'll be bringing Roush a barebones 2020 Ford Mustang GT donor car to start with.

On the other hand, the Shelby GT500 can easily exceed $100,000 after options, where the JRE Mustang delivers full performance with a simple Competition Package, which consists of 19-inch forged Roush/Weld Racing wheels in matte black finish, Continental ExtremeContact DR tires, and a "Jack Pack Track Box".

Even more enticing, just 60 units of the 2020 Jack Roush Edition Mustang will be sold in the United States, making it a desperately rare bird, and it can be had with a six-speed manual transmission; the new Shelby is dual-clutch-only.

No, $50,995 isn't cheap, but if you're looking for a sleek, competent Mustang track car with a 5-year/60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, a stick, and more horsepower than even the hell-raising Shelby GT500, the Jack Roush Edition Mustang might be your ticket. Orders are now open.
