The acceleration is mind-blowing.
With its 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 generating up to 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque, the Audi R8 is hardly underpowered. But as this video demonstrates, the R8 is capable of handling hypercar levels of performance with the right modifications.
This custom Audi R8 has been fitted with two BK Performance turbochargers that increase the power output to 1,000 hp. To show what this aftermarket mid-engine sports car can do, AutoTopNL performed a half-mile acceleration test, and the performance is mind-blowing. As standard, the Audi R8 Performance will accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds and top out at 205 mph.
The base model will do the same sprint in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph. During the test, the modified 1,000-hp Audi R8 rockets off the line in the blink of an eye before reaching a top speed of 189.5 mph from a standstill in an earth-shattering 16 seconds. Beyond that, the R8 would have likely hit 200 mph in less than 20 seconds.
This level of performance is comparable to a Bugatti Chiron, which will do 0-186 mph in 13.6 seconds, for a fraction of the price. We're not sure how much the owner paid for the aftermarket turbochargers, but the total cost won't be in the Chiron's seven-figure price bracket.
Despite having to cope with almost twice as much power, the Audi R8 remains remarkably composed throughout the test without any additional mechanical modifications, which is a testament to the car's solid engineering. It's a shame, then, that the future of the Audi R8 looks uncertain.
Reports have claimed the R8 will be replaced by either a new electric supercar with a new name or a new hybrid model, but budget cuts and slow sales could prevent Audi from replacing the R8 for a new generation.
