Watch A Tesla Model S Trick The Dyno

Electric cars can be confusing to a dyno.

Some people, and we’re sure you’ve talked to a few of them before, think the Tesla Model S has some kind of automotive super power. As a proper electric sports sedan is something we haven’t really seen before, you can understand how people might get some details wrong. This video probably won’t help. You see, a dyno is really built for measuring power from an internal combustion engine, and electric motors can confuse it.

So although the dyno gets the horsepower of the P85 S right, it spits out a torque figure of about 2,000lb-ft, which obviously isn’t quite correct.
