NASCAR is joining the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a modified Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. While being the odd one out among the bunch of Le Man Prototype (LMP) cars, the Chevy Camaro is not holding back in letting its presence be felt through its mighty V8 engine sound as seen in the video posted below.

The blue-colored modified Chevy Camaro ZL1 is spearheaded by Hendrick Motorsports, regarded as the most successful team in the NASCAR Cup Series. Bearing the number 24, the car is this year's entry for Garage 56, a class reserved for experimental vehicles that are not eligible to win a trophy.

This class is an extra slot on the grid meant to showcase vehicle innovation, which means that the Chevy Camaro NASCAR version is not officially part of the competition and Le Mans' technical regulations do not have to be applied. Despite this, NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports consider this a perfect platform to show the Camaro's capability in a motorsport event that is considered the most demanding race in the world.

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 NASCAR is equipped with a 5.8-liter V8 engine developed by Hendrick Motorsports. The team has shaved off weight on the Camaro as it now only weighs 2,960 lbs as compared to the standard NASCAR Cup Series spec of 3,200 lbs.

Hendrick Motorsports and NASCAR assembled a team of drivers that each have a notable reputation. The seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmi Johnson headlines the driver lineup along with two-time Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller and 2009 Formula 1 champion and Radford boss Jenson Button.

The 100th year of Le Mans 24 Hours has the most number of entrants in more than a decade. It will have 16 entries in the hypercar class including cars from Ferrari, Porsche, Peugeot, and Toyota, among others.
