Fast family wagons are a guilty automotive pleasure that never seems to get old. In fact, they're just getting cooler and cooler. The heyday of quick wagons might be behind us, but there are some manufacturers who are still keeping this unique flame burning, and the absolutely insane Audi RS6 Avant is the pick of the small bunch. This supercar-in-disguise delivers astonishing performance, and in this latest video, we get to see it going up against a more traditional foe; the Mercedes-AMG E63 S Sedan. We've previously covered a race between these two vehicles, in which the Audi showed stunning acceleration, and the Merc dominated with top-end power. Can we expect a different outcome this time?

Firstly let's take a look at what each car brings to the table. The 2021 Audi RS6 Avant is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces a meaty 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft. This Audi will sprint to 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds and will top out at 174 mph. The Mercedes-AMG E63 S is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 churning out 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It weighs 200 pounds less than the RS6, and will get to 60 mph one-tenth of a second quicker. Things aren't looking too promising for the Audi.

In the video, both cars line up on a prepped drag strip. The first race sees the Audi dart off the line, leaving the AMG in the dust. The E63 S starts catching up in the end, but it's not enough, and the Audi crosses the line with its nose in the lead. In the second race, the Mercedes-AMG nails a better start and starts pulling away thanks to its superior power figure.

Next up is a rolling race, in which the Audi takes a surprising win. In the second rolling race, the Merc manages to take the win by a hair. The AMG manages a 0-60 mph time of 3.51 seconds, and an 11.52-second quarter mile. The Audi does the 0-60 mph sprint in 3.56 seconds and crosses the quarter in 11.64 seconds. These numbers are impressive, but we've seen what tuned examples of the RS6 are capable of.
