AMG GT Black Series

Mercedes-AMG is not a company that does half measures. This is especially true for the Black Series range of utter ridiculousness. When the SL65 Black came out, it had to be fitted with an older gearbox because nothing modern at the time could handle the torque of the monstrous engine. While the game has since moved on, that doesn't mean that Merc's skunkworks division has decided to opt for a subtler approach. The Black Series version of the AMG GT looks utterly otherworldly, and that's saying something when the GT R Pro exists. Now, the GT Black Series has been teased further in a video released by AMG, and it looks incredible in motion.

As a refresher, the AMG GT Black Series will once again use Merc's impressive 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that will power the rear wheels with the aid of a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. However, while the base GT produces 469 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, the Black Series will absolutely pulverize the tarmac with 720 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. That's even more power than the incredible McLaren 720S.

Unfortunately, the video above shows YouTuber Shmee150 going for a bit of a joyride after covertly walking into an AMG workshop, rather than a racing driver really manhandling the car, but we're just happy to see and hear the car in action at all.

The Black Series is like the Super Veloce badge for Lamborghini, a range dedicated to only the ultimate expressions of what a car can be. While we never had any doubt that the people at AMG would do a good job, this video makes us want to drive the thing to find out just how well they did. With the most powerful AMG product ever expected to be fully revealed this month, we're more excited than ever to get behind the wheel. If you'd like to do the same thing for as long as you like, we'd suggest withdrawing around $300,000 so you have a few grand for options. Maybe you can drop it off at our offices for a couple of weeks too.
