Homes and shops were reduced to rubble after two cranes collapsed while hoisting a section of a bridge. The terrifying accident was caught on camera in the city of Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands. Rescuers were able to pull one survivor to safety from beneath the wreckage, while 20 people are said to have been injured. Sadly, a dog was found dead at the scene. The two cranes buckled under the weight of the tarmac, crushing a row of buildings and toppling into the canal water.

Footage comes from a local resident who told reporters at the scene: "You see the cloud of dust rise - that is a terrible image and you think, 'Who is under there?' You can't believe what you see." A security perimeter surrounds the site, while Dutch prosecutors have launched a criminal investigation.
