If you keep up with the Euro tuning scene at all, you're probably well aware that the 2.5-liter five-pot turbo offered in the soon-to-be-dead-in-America TT RS and the RS3 is a prime candidate for tuning. Even without a bigger turbo, these things can comfortably achieve 10-second passes on the quarter-mile. And with a bigger turbo and supporting mods, the sky is the limit. But for old-school Volkswagen and Audi enthusiasts, even this characterful engine is sometimes not enough. Sometimes, you need six cylinders, and few six-pots are as tuneable as the legendary VR6. Austrian outfit HST Turbotuning recently took its VR6-swapped Audi TT RS to Santa Pod, and in the process cemented its title as the creator of the world's quickest AWD Audi TT. Take a look.

As the video makes abundantly clear, this is no ordinary VR6. It's the world's first billet VR6 and it's attached to an enormous 88-millimeter ProMod turbocharger, helping it produce 1,566 horsepower at the crank. With a clutchless sequential gearbox and all four wheels putting the power down, the monstrous TT is able to reset the record books by achieving a time of 7.36 seconds with an exit speed of 185 mph. One of the car's runs saw it cross even faster, posting a speed of 191 mph with a time of 7.37 seconds. But like all car enthusiasts, the people at HST are still not satisfied.

The team is said to have a billet crank ready for the car and will return to the track with even more power as HST aims for an exit speed north of 200 mph and a quarter-mile time somewhere in the six-second bracket. Considering that the front has been converted to a tubular spaceframe, the interior is almost totally stripped, and much of the glass has been replaced by plastic, it seems that the team has covered all aspects of the weight reduction regimen possible, so the only thing to do now is add more power. This is the team's second such TT, so we have no doubt it has what it takes to find a winning, six-second recipe.
