Infiniti recently filed a trademark for the name QX55, which was believed to be the name of the company's upcoming QX50-based crossover coupe to rival the Audi Q3 Sportback and BMW X4. This was all just speculation at the time but now Infiniti has teased its latest model, the QX55, at the 2019 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.

"The Infiniti QX55 is a stunning new SUV coupe in the heart of one of the industry's fastest-growing segments, globally," said Mike Colleran Infiniti Motor Company Deputy Chairman. "Customers will appreciate the distinctive design of the QX55 which features a sporty coupe-like roofline. We know customers and retailers are eagerly looking forward to the QX55 which will be available next year."

Along with the announcement, Infiniti released a single teaser image of the QX55 (pictured below), showing the coupe-like roofline. The image gives away almost nothing about the car because it only shows a vague outline of the overall shape. From what we can tell, the QX55's roofline will be remarkably rakish and could bear some resemblance to the beautiful QX Inspiration Concept shown off at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

Infiniti has said the QX Inspiration will eventually spawn a QX70 (FX37/FX50) replacement, which will likely be a separate, all-electric model. Based on the naming structure, we expect the QX55 to be based on the same platform at the current QX50.

The QX50 is powered by Nissan's 2.0-liter VC Turbo engine producing 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. We would love to see Infiniti cram more power in the QX55 using one of its twin-turbocharged V6 engines producing between 300-400 hp. Infiniti says the QX55 will arrive in dealerships summer of 2020, meaning a reveal will happen sometime before then.

Other details are minimal but we hope the QX55 arrives with Nissan's updated infotainment system, which is currently being co-developed with Google.
