While the rest of the luxury auto market is playing catch up with the Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover's off-road offerings by making all sorts of luxo SUVs, Mercedes is working hard on the next big thing. The German luxury automaker thinks that premium pickup trucks will be the next breadwinner for the company, especially given the high profit margins that trucks yield. We had previously mentioned that Mercedes was developing a pickup truck after realizing that out of Australia's top ten best selling cars, four of them were trucks.

The company wants a piece of this pie and now the latest informants for Auto Express have confirmed that we will finally get to see just how Mercedes will corner this market by showing us a concept car at the 2016 Paris Auto Show in October. Even if the luxury truck, which could be named the GLT or the X-Class, makes an appearance as early as late 2016, don't expect to see it until late 2017 or early 2018 if it even makes it to the US at all. Hopefully, if the GLT/X-Class comes to North America, it will come with a variety of powertrain options including an AMG variant, because the Ford F-150 Raptor is a bit lonely in its class and it would be fun to see another competitor give it a run for its money.
