And it may arrive next year.
BMW is one of those automakers that’s always up to something naughty, in a good way of course. And for anyone who’s had the chance to drive its current lineup, there’s one particular standout that brand purists regularly praise: the 2 Series. Small, RWD, and relatively affordable, the 2 Series is the latest incarnation of the classic coupe, beginning with the 2002, which put BMW on the map. Coming up this November at the LA Auto Show will be the reveal of the high-performance version, the M2.
But now we’re hearing that BMW is cooking up another 2 Series variant that has the potential for greatness: a lightweight M2 CSL. According to a rumor that first appeared on BMW Blog, the M2 CSL will appear in concept form sometime in 2016. The CSL name, as many already know, was first used in the 1970s and later on with the E46 M3 CSL. Also earlier this year we saw the unveiling of the 3.0 CSL Hommage Concept, another indication that BMW plans to revive CLS cars. We’ll bring you more details as we get them.
