Back in 2011 at Frankfurt, Kia revealed a sleek-looking concept sedan called the GT. It didn't look anything like any previous Kia, and since then the South Korean automaker has become something of a powerhouse in exterior design. The GT Concept was rear-wheel-drive and featured a body style very similar to that of the Audi A7 and Mercedes CLS. Kia stated repeatedly that it wanted a production-spec GT, but we had to be patient. But today, we can confirm, that production Kia GT will debut this September at the Paris Motor Show.

Our spy photographers also just so happened to snap these images of the first GT prototype testing in Europe. We're told the GT will be built on a slightly smaller version of the same RWD platform that underpins the Geneses G80 and G90 sedans. Expect power to come from the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 that also powers the new Genesis. It's possible though that Kia will even boost power somewhat, say closer to 400. Less powerful versions are also planned. As far as the official name, our sources also tell us Kia hasn't decided if it'll be "GT" or even "Stinger," which was the name of that Miata-killing coupe concept that's also expected to reach production.

As for the sedan test mule you're looking at, Kia is confident that it'll be a solid competitor to the likes of the A7 and CLS, but it'll be interesting to see whether Audi or Mercedes buyers will switch to a Kia. Sounds kind of doubtful to us, but Kia could end up easily attracting new and younger customers to the brand instead.
