It must be 1981 because you can now buy a new Delorean.
Even though the DMC12 hasn't been built since 1983 you will be able to buy a new example very soon. Stephen Wynne, the man behind the revived DeLorean Motor Company (DMC), moved operations to Houston Texas. There sits cars owned by the new DMC as well as cars sent there for repairs by owners. Now DeLorean has been approved by a low-volume manufacturing bill from the government to build new cars.
Refurbished DeLoreans cost between $45,000 to $55,000. Wynne hopes to keep the cost of the new models to under $100,000 depending on what modern engine is chosen. The appearance of the car will not change, so what you will basically be buying is a 1980s car, built brand new. Seems like a very cool concept. We wish more car companies could build old models to be brand new again. Would anyone say no to a brand new E30 M3 with no miles? We can't wait to see one of these new DeLorean models. Wynne says the first car should be completed in early 2017.
