Sprinter Cargo Van

Sony Entertainment has enlisted the help of the customization experts at West Coast Customs (WCC) to create a PlayStation 5-themed mobile gaming lounge based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

A new video from WCC details the entire build, from early design sketches to the finished product. Designer Musa Tjahjono was given a PS5 controller as his inspiration and explained that the Mercedes van would be transformed to reflect the PlayStation brand, with the focus being the interior.

"[It's] going to have two captain's chairs, some showcase cabinets in the rear to highlight the consoles, and the center divider, which is going to be inspired by the silhouette of the console itself."

With the design out of the way, it was time to turn the concept into a reality. The Sprinter was stripped entirely and wrapped in Satin White with a blue roof. The famous controller symbols were applied to the hood and side of the van.

To contrast with the white wrap, WCC sprayed the various exterior trim components and rims in black. The nine-spoke alloys have a blue lip that matches the roof. Even though the outside looks ready, there's still plenty of work to be done inside, which is arguably the highlight of this custom van.

"It's got a lot of woodworking, a lot of fiberglass, and a lot of wiring. There's just a lot of work," adds Ryan Friedlinghaus, CEO of West Coast Customs. It's hard to imagine the finished product when you see the stripped-out interior, but the experts at WCC are capable of great things.

The interior trimmings have been sprayed white to match the swathes of leather that adorn the rear compartment. A black background highlights a prominent, backlit PlayStation logo that acts as an eye-catching backdrop.

PlayStation's symbols are a recurring theme inside, with the iconic triangle, circle, square, and cross patterns adorning the seats and roof lining.

"The van turned out amazing. The exterior is simple [and] clean, [but] the interior? Wow. That's what you're going to say when you get into this van. From the technology, the lighting, just the aesthetic, I feel that when you're sitting inside this van, you're inside a PS5," added Friedlinghaus.

We'd have to agree. Entering the van through the side door, you're met by the backlit PlayStation symbols. Thanks to the liberal use of blue and white, the interior feels clean and modern and looks like a haven for any avid gamer. We'd say it's the perfect place to hone your skills on Gran Turismo 7, in fact.

It certainly beats Tesla's in-car gaming system and will undoubtedly be streaks ahead of the gaming system BMW plans to introduce in future cars.
