There are countless upsides to owning a sports car. Just a few include high performance figures, sex appeal and the fun factor. However, there are a few downsides, and we’re not talking about high gas prices. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, sports cars are also very popular amongst thieves and it has now released a top 10 list of the most commonly stolen makes and models. The data was gathered between 2010 to 2012 for model years beginning in January 2009 and ending in December 2012.
There was a total of 3,780 reported thefts. So without further ado, the most stolen sports car in the time period was the Chevrolet Camaro with 980 thefts. Second place goes to the Ford Mustang with 980 thefts, and the Dodge Challenger gets third for 782 thefts. That’s right: the top three most stolen sports cars are American muscle cars. Take it as a sign of just how awesome each of those three are amongst owners and thieves alike. These three even beat out more expensive sporty cars like the Porsche Panamera (103) and the Audi A5/S5 (101). The top three cities where the most thefts took place was Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Miami.
