What Crackpot Converted This Mazda Miata Into A 1965 Mustang?

For Sale

Someone with way too much time on their hands. That's who.

Wow, where to begin with this one. What you’re looking at is really a 1997 Mazda MX-5 Miata, only it looks like a 1965 Ford Mustang. But it’s not. Its dimensions are clearly way off if you look at it from the side. The interior? Nothing but late 90s Japanese build quality goodness. Whoever did this conversion clearly spent a lot of time and money doing it because, well, we’re really not sure why. And now they’re trying to sell it on Autotrader.com. It’s listed with an asking price of $9,800 which is really quite a few too many Benjamins, all things considered.

Look, you’re not buying a classic Mustang. It’s only pretending to be, and it’s not like used Miatas are hard to find. Mazda has only built over a million of them. The listing says the car has 94,595 miles and features a blue exterior with a black interior. At least the colors are nice. But wait, what the heck is that?! A fake wood steering wheel?! No, just no. Power comes courtesy of the first-generation Miata’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder with 133 hp, which is actually slightly more powerful than the ’65 Mustang’s 120 hp 3.3-liter inline-six. Other features include alloy wheels that look very Miata-ish, three-point seat belts, AM/FM radio, and air conditioning. So yeah. Nearly $10 grand for this….thing.

We did a quick search and found a few ’65 Mustangs for no more than $23k. There was even one powered by the base inline-six for just $16k. It even has far fewer miles (15,237, to be exact) than this Miata-Mustang conversion. But you’re fully capable of making your own buying decisions. If the Miata-Mustang is more appealing, then fine. Just be sure to drive with a paper bag with eyes holes over your head. Photos courtesy of Autotrader.com
