Or diesel into a gasoline car?
It’s a mistake that people often make, putting the wrong type of fuel into the tank. Well, not everybody makes that mistake, at least in the US. That’s because there really weren’t all that many diesels in the past (or in the future, thanks to Volkswagen). But apparently mixing up gasoline (petrol overseas) and diesel is a fairly common occurrence in the UK. After drivers realize their mistake, they often spend money to have the fuel professionally drained and/or the engine pump replaced. Insurance doesn’t always cover the cost.
It’s the manufacturers that recommend those steps in light of your mistake, but are they really necessary? This Throwback Thursday clip of an old segment on Fifth Gear aims to find out.
