As Ford prepares to launch an all-new version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck, one of the best-known companies in high-performance supercharger systems, Whipple, is sending the current-generation Ford F-150 out with a bang.

The company has just revealed a new twin-screw supercharger kit for 2018-2020 F-150s equipped with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine - one that puts even Ford's potent F-150 Raptor to shame by boosting output to a tire-twisting 735 horsepower and 685 lb-ft of torque on 93-octane pump gas. That's an extra 340 horsepower and 285 lb-ft over the factory ratings - more than most new passenger vehicles sold today.

To achieve this, Whipple deployed its latest Gen 5 supercharger design, alongside a massive air-to-water intercooler and a high-flow Crusher air intake. Software changes were also in order, not only to remap the fuel and spark timing to ensure the F-150 can take full advantage of its extra intake charge, but to recalibrate the throttle and transmission to suit the extra power.

Of course, there will always be those who demand ever more power, and for them, Whipple is offering a Stage 2 upgrade with a 132mm billet throttle body - a substantial upgrade over the factory 80mm throttle. Peak torque remains unchanged, but peak power rises from 735 to 775 horsepower - nearly twice the stock F-150's 395-horsepower rating.

Of course, supercar power doesn't come cheap, but Whipple isn't charging anything like supercar pricing. The new 2018-2020 Ford F-150 supercharger kit is priced from just $7,900, and the Stage 2 upgrade will cost another $600 on top of that. That's not the most expensive supercharger kit we've ever seen - not by a long shot - and installation promises to be a fairly straightforward affair, with no cutting or grinding required. The big Whipple blower even fits under the factory F-150 hood.

If you aren't satisfied with Ford's lack of a modern-day F-150 SVT Lightning successor, and Shelby American's turnkey truck packages are a bit too rich for your tastes, this Whipple supercharger kit might be just the thing for you.
