Why Volkswagen's "New" Supercar Isn't Quite What You'd Expect

Still awesome though.

Volkswagen initially claimed it was expanding its GTI fleet. But the reality lay in the fine print of the press release. What you see here is VW’s new supercar for the digital race circuit, specifically for Gran Turismo 6 for Play Station 3. Could a super-hot hatch like this become a reality one day? We don’t see why not; VW even provided some official specs: The GTI Supersport features a 503 hp VR6 TSI under the hood and is paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, sending power to all four wheels.

This GTI makes the sprint from a standstill to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 186 mph. Riding on a set of 20-inch GTI advanced alloy wheels, the body itself has been “aerodynamically optimized,” featuring large air intakes, broad shoulders, roof-edge spoiler, and a massive diffuser. Sound pretty cool (in a digital sense)? The GTI Supersport Vision Gran Turismo is now available for download. Will it ever make production? Very doubtful. However, it does provide a potential preview of what VW has in mind for the next generation GTI, though we doubt a street-going GTI will ever have over 500 hp.
