The term gets tossed around a lot, but certain cars really are iconic. Like the Porsche 911, Jeep Wrangler, and in a very different way, the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile. Initially created in 1936, the hotdog-shaped car has earned its place in the annals of Americana. It has inspired several imitators: these days the Peepster Beetle, Lindt Smart and (newest of all) the L.L. Bean Bootmobile also roam the streets... but not usually together. That's what made this gathering so special.

Orchestrated by L.L. Bean to celebrate its 100th anniversary, this gathering of promotional "art cars" (to use the term in a very different way to how BMW would) took place just days ago in Freeport, Maine, where the outdoor outfitter is based. The event at Discovery Park included a campfire for roasting Oscar Meyer wieners, outdoor activity demonstrations by L.L. Bean, photo opportunities with the unique cars and activities for the kids.
