Will The New Nissan GT-R Look Like This?

Supercar / 17 Comments

We won’t know until it launches at some point in the next decade.

The 2019 Nissan GT-R recently arrived in dealerships, but it's virtually identical to the outgoing model. The current GT-R has been on sale for a decade in the US now, but regular performance improvements and new trims have helped keep the technologically advanced supercar ahead of the competition.

As much as we love the current GT-R, it's only a matter of time before it gets replaced by an even better model. Nissan is currently hard at work developing the Nissan GT-R's eventual successor, but it isn't expected to arrive until the early 2020s. That gives render artists plenty of time to dream up some designs for the new GT-R.

From artist Vladimir Gololobov comes this blocky-looking interpretation of the new GT-R. The striking design is inspired by the current GT-R and the Vision Gran Turismo Concept unveiled a few years ago. Vertical headlights seamlessly blend into the wheel arches at the front, while the hood sits lower than the arches. There are also large air intakes on either side of the grille to improve cooling and increase downforce at the front axle, and the car rides on massive wheels. At the back, the hypothetical GT-R retains its predecessor's distinctive quad taillights while adding a massive wing and triangular tailpipes.

Unfortunately, very little is known about the next-generation Nissan GT-R. The Japanese supercar is still at an early design stage, as the automaker's design chief recently admitted that the powertrain and platform haven't been decided yet. It has a lot to live up to considering it will be the successor to one of the most influential supercars of the last decade, but Nissan is adamant that the new GT-R will be "the fastest super sports car in the world." The automaker also wants the design to stand out, so don't expect it to share styling cues with the gorgeous Italdesign GT-R50 going on sale next year for over $1 million.
