Need a fashion statement and some country-club cred? Which one will do the trick?
For buyers who are interested in entering the luxury CUV market and have around $50,000 to spend, the obvious first decision would be to go for the newest and coolest car on the market. But with entries from BMW and Porsche hitting showrooms shortly, which one will really tell your friends that you've arrived? The Macan S is equipped with a 335-horsepower 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, and it’ll cost $49,900 to race it from 0-60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
The newly unveiled BMW X4, going for the crossover-with-an-ass fashion statement, is priced at $48,925 (including delivery), and offers 300 hp from its 3.0-liter turbo six. Its 0-60 mph times are identical to those of the Macan. As for the driving experience, if that matters to shoppers in this category, the Porsche has been tested and passed with flying colors, while the X4 has yet to disprove the iffy reputation of the X3 on which it's based on. When it comes to design, the Macan is classically Porsche, while the X4’s love-it-or-hate-it statement is bound to bring in quite a few fans.
