You Can Buy Ken Block's 2004 Subaru Impreza Rally Car

The car was driven by Block in the X Games.

A Subaru Impreza, even a WRX or an STI, selling on Bring A Trailer would never be front page news, but this particular car was driven by Ken Block. Block, a famous rally driver known for his Hoonigan brand and Gymkhana videos, tragically died earlier this year in a snowmobile accident. He left the fans one final Gymkhana video in an electric Audi, but was most well-known for his antics driving a Subaru. This 2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS is a chance to own a piece of history from one of the world's most beloved drivers.

The car was converted to Open Class rally racing specifications in 2006 by Vermont SportsCar in Milton, Vermont. It then competed in the 2006 X Games, piloted by Ken Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino. Mark Fox purchased the car in 2009 and used it to compete at the New England Forest Rally. The total mileage is listed as unknown, but we know that hardly any of them were driven gingerly. You can see some television footage of Block ripping around in the car included below.

Despite being a 2.5 RS, the engine was swapped for a 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four that drives all four wheels via a KAPS five-speed dog-box manual transmission and a driver-controller center differential as well as Cusco front and rear limited-slip differentials. No output figure is listed, but the engine likely produces around 400 horsepower. We aren't sure if this ex-rally car is street legal, but it does come with a Carfax report and an Oregon title. That Carfax lists water damage in 2005 that caused the car to be declared a total loss and various accidents while racing, which have been repaired. The front spoiler is cracked and there are plenty of blemishes around the body (this car was raced, after all).

The exterior is finished in black with a Monster Energy livery, a Ken Block special. We love the gold wheels, which are wrapped in 215/65 BFGoodrich g-force tires with a spare in the trunk. Other exterior details include PIAA driving lights, a hood scoop, rear wing, roof ventilator, mud flaps, and rear tow anchor. The car uses recently rebuilt AP rotors with four-piston calipers, Ohlins shock absorbers, and Cusco rear suspension links.

Inside, the Subaru has been completely stripped out for racing. The roster of equipment includes Recaro Pro Racer SPA HANS racing seats, Sabelt six-point harnesses, a roll cage, carbon-fiber dashboard and door panels, Coralba Giant rally computer, custom fuse and relay panel, Tilton pedal box, passenger foot brace, and fire suppression system. Sadly, the seat and harness certifications have expired, so the buyer would need to install new ones to go racing again.

Whether you purchase this as a rally toy or a museum piece, this is a special vehicle. It includes autographs from Alex Gelsomino, Travis Pastrana, and Ken Block. The bid on BAT is currently up to $45,000 as of this writing, but we expect it to go for much more with 12 days left on the auction.
