While range anxiety is often cited as a reason why many buyers won't consider an electric vehicle, price is obviously another crucial factor. Most EVs cost more than their gas-powered competitors, but now several automakers are trying to make them more affordable. The 2022 Nissan Leaf recently received a massive price reduction, now starting at only $27,400 for the base S model.

With the $7,500 federal tax credit factored in, a new Leaf is just $19,900. But not everyone can get it. Some won't qualify for the full tax credit, while others still can't afford to finance a brand-new car. Luckily, Nissan now has some incredible lease offers available too.

Nissan currently lists a $149 per month lease price for 24 months with $1,449 initial payment, a $1,300 down payment, and 10,000 miles per year. Even if you spread the initial payment and down payment across 24 months, the lease still factors out to a reasonable $263 per month. This deal only includes the base Leaf S model with the 40-kWh battery pack, a 149-mile range, and 147 horsepower with 236 lb-ft of torque.

The lease rate is so low because Nissan is able to spread the tax credit into the payment, reducing the cost to the consumer. If you live in a specific area such as Los Angeles, Maryland, New York, Houston, or San Francisco, you can qualify for other incentives that pull the lease price down even further. In these regions, Nissan currently offers the Leaf for only $89 per month. This is less impressive than the 99-cent lease deal we spotted earlier this year, but you don't have to buy a Titan pickup truck to qualify for it.

Buyers who'd like a more powerful Leaf SL Plus with premium two-tone paint can now lease one at $308 per month for 24 months. This model includes a larger 62-kWh battery providing 215 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque with a 226-mile range. These numbers still don't rival Tesla, but there are no Tesla models available for under $300 per month. If you are still worried about the range for a long trip, Nissan gives all Leaf buyers a credit to rent a gas-powered car.
