Treat your Miata.
We live in the golden age of horsepower. Never before has so much power been so freely available to so many, and the American muscle car is leading the charge with advanced V8 engines that seem to love making big numbers. Cars such as the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat set the bar for massive power outputs with its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine producing up to 797 horsepower, and Ford has responded with cars such as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The GT500 has proven to be a serious performance car in every aspect, but most will talk about its 5.2-liter supercharged V8 with a massive 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque and now there's good news for Ford fans specifically, or any power-loving gearhea: you can now buy these as complete crate motors.
The GT500 crate engine is officially codenamed M-6007-M52SC and is sold alongside other crate motors such as the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 rated at 400 hp, and old-school engines such as the 572 cubic-inch big-block street engine rated at 655 hp. So what makes this engine so great? Let's start with its high-strength aluminum block with plasma transferred wire arc spray weld cylinder liners. This block features a forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and grafal coated forged aluminum pistons inside a 94 millimeter bore with a 93 mm stroke. The compression ratio is a solid 9.5:1, which tuners will tell you leaves a fair amount of room for unlocking extra power.
To produce 760 hp and 625 lb-ft, Ford fits an Eaton TVS R2650 Supercharger. This motor also comes with all the necessary bits to make it run properly, including exhaust manifolds, an alternator, starter motor, an a/c compressor, a 92 mm throttle body, a supercharger belt, and a water pump/alternator belt. The entire package weighs 536 pounds and the package size is 43 x 44.5 x 42 inches with a weight of 665 lbs. The comprehensive offer will set you back $25,995, which is the equivalent of a high-spec Ford Maverick pickup truck. We recommend finding the cheapest Mazda Miata you can find and dropping one of these under the hood.
