Cadillac has been hard at work updating its range of 2021 models, with the CT4 getting added tech and new special editions. The US automaker's foothold in China is also growing stronger, and models such as the XT4 have been receiving a lot of attention, especially in the features and technology department. Cadillac has recently announced an interesting update for the compact crossover which will raise some eyebrows, especially coming from the land of big brother: the XT4 now comes with a "Face ID keyless" feature.

The new system has been described as "the ultimate keyless experience" and is set to revolutionize the way customers interact with their Cadillac vehicles.

The new feature allows the driver access to the XT4 by making use of built in cameras in the frame of the driver's door. The system makes use of two infrared, and one RGB camera to scan the face of individuals, and can identify up to 106 different facial features. The new entry system activates the high-def camera module through the user's mobile phone Bluetooth recognition wake-up function and can conduct a facial scan day or night, and will even function during extreme weather. The system also offers other security measures such as traditional fingerprint and password unlock, and has a multi-account management function for up to seven users.

Felix Weller, Vice President of Cadillac in China is proud of the pioneering work being carried out: "The 2021 Cadillac XT4's pioneering technology, intelligent connectivity and exterior have been enhanced based on the brand's deep understanding and keen insight of the local market. With the rising demand among the younger generation of customers for luxury vehicles, more of them are looking for high-value, high-technology SUVs. The 2021 XT4 has all the elements that will delight them on their journey."

The new Face ID system is available from Cadillac dealers at an additional cost of RMB 10,000 ($1,479).
