With his old Karma operation now in other hands, Henrik Fisker is back in the game, with plans to launch a new electric crossover in January. But even before it's been fully unveiled, the reborn company is already taking reservations.

Called the Fisker Ocean, it's set to take on the Tesla Model Y (among others) in the growing market for electric crossovers. And it's already claiming to be "the world's most sustainable vehicle" – and not only because of its all-electric powertrain that'll give it a projected range of 250-300 miles.

Supporting what might otherwise seem like a dubious claim, the Fisker Ocean is also set to incorporate a completely vegan interior with recycled upholstery and carpeting and a big solar panel on the roof to keep its ~80-kWh battery pack topped up.

"Our mission is to become the No. 1 e-mobility service provider on Earth, featuring the world's most desirable and sustainable vehicles while shaking up the old automotive industry model – from the way a customer attains a vehicle, chooses affordable insurance, services a vehicle to the overall mobility experience," said Henrik Fisker, who designed not only the Ocean and the Karma, but also vehicles like the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9 (among others).

While aiming to disrupt the automotive industry, Fisker is also offering an unusual path to putting a new Ocean in your driveway. It'll be available to purchase like normal, but the company is also offering the Ocean (and its future stablemates) with an all-inclusive subscription plan that will start at $379 per month – after a $2,999 down payment that can (for qualified customers) be financed as well. And unlike most subscription or lease programs, customers will be able to return the vehicle whenever they want, with no long-term contract.
