Back in 2013, game developer Polyphony Digital pioneered the innovative Vision Gran Turismo program, a scheme allowing automakers to create crazy fantasy cars for the Gran Turismo video games. Real-life models were then shown at motor shows: you may remember the insane Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo and Alpine Vision Gran Turismo concept cars. Now, better late than never, Italian design house Zagato has teased its Vision Gran Turismo concept car, set to make its digital debut in Gran Turismo Sport on PlayStation 4 next month.

Dubbed the Zagato IsoRivolta Vision Gran Turismo concept, as the name implies the design of the car is heavily inspired by the Italian Iso Rivolta grand tourer from the early 1960s. Teaser images taken from the recent Grand Basel collector car event in Switzerland, show the car partially covered, but we can still make out the car's aerodynamic front end, bulging wheel arches, and slender headlights. The design also appears to be mid-engined, in contrast to the original front-engined Iso Rivolta grand tourer. The car was presented by the company's CEO Andrea Zagato, who revealed to Motor Authority that a more hardcore version will be revealed soon.

"The Vision Gran Turismo, even if it was thought for the Sony PlayStation, is shaped on the base of our experience in designing real cars," he said. "I dream of returning to the Grand Basel 2018 with a Vmax concept of the IsoRivolta Vision." No technical details have been revealed for the Zagato IsoRivolta, but the CEO hinted that "a true GT needs a powerful engine," implying that the car is capable of some serious performance. Sadly, we'll never be able to find out as it won't be going into production. Instead, you'll be able to take the Zagato IsoRivolta for a virtual test drive when Gran Turismo Sport launches on PlayStation 4 on October 17. The Zagato IsoRivolta will then make its real life debut a day later.
