Street-legal track cars don't get much better than the BAC Mono R. The standard BAC Mono was already certifiably bonkers, but the hardcore R version is even faster and lighter, with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 340 hp.

With a curb weight of just 1,223 pounds, the Mono R is 55 pounds lighter than the standard car, resulting in a power to weight ratio of 612-hp-per-ton and a 0-60 mph time of just 2.5 seconds. Impressively, this setup enabled the BAC Mono R to smash the production car lap record at the demanding Red Bull Ring in Austria during the Pirelli P Zero Experience.

With British racing driver Adam Christodoulou behind the wheel, the BAC Mono R lapped the 2.7-mile circuit in just one minute and 32.96 seconds at an average speed of 122 mph. This was fast enough to beat the previous production car lap record at the Austrian Grand Prix circuit set by the Ferrari LaFerrari by nearly six seconds.

That's impressive considering the LaFerrari costs seven figures and has nearly 1,000 horsepower. By contrast, the BAC Mono R will set you back $260,000. Road-legal Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires were fitted for the record run.

BAC's latest achievement is even more impressive when you consider the Red Bull Ring is a power circuit with elevation changes and high altitudes, but the Mono R overcame these challenges thanks to its low weight.

"Another event, another lap record for Mono R - we're absolutely delighted to be at the top of the leaderboard at such a stunning and iconic circuit," said Ian Briggs, BAC Co-Founder and Design Director. "Back in the early stages of developing the car we said that no record is safe worldwide, and that's certainly proving the case. R is an incredible machine and we cannot wait for the next giant to fall. Special thanks to our tire partner Pirelli for their excellent hospitality in Austria and giving us a chance to go for the record."
