The BMW X2 tends to blend in the background with the carmaker's more popular larger SUVs dominating the sales charts. To pump some more life into its sports activity coupe, the German brand has put together yet another special model. This time, it's the GoldPlay Edition that gives it a rather unique color scheme and a preferable amount of standard features.

The GoldPlay uses this opportunity to introduce the San Remo Green metallic paint which can only be selected on this trim. But, if it's not your flavor, you can select Alpine White, Black Sapphire metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, or BMW Individual Storm Bay metallic. These colors are paired with a set of 19-inch or optional 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels with Galvanic Gold inserts mated to either all-season or performance run-flat tires.

So, what comes as standard on the X2 GoldPlay Edition? Keeping to the athletic theme, the manufacturer includes its recently revised M Sport Package together with an M Sport suspension that brings the ride height down by 0.4-inches. Ensuring sharp characteristics through the corners is the M Sport steering wheel while a three-section lower air intake has been fitted to the front.

Dark Shadow inserts are applied to both the front and back to further complement the color scheme. In the hopes to make the small crossover come across as more muscular, we also find the M high-gloss Shadow Line trim and M Aerodynamics package fitted to the body.

The special theme continues within the cabin of the X2 GoldPlay Edition. Here, we see Galvanic Gold "Edition" lettering applied to the door sills so that passengers are reminded of the special car every time they climb inside. Dark Graphite matte trims are installed on the dashboard while a Golden Mica metallic graphic finds itself on the strip and seal with clear lacquer. This has been applied via an innovative laser engraving technique.

To make the driver and passenger feel like they're in a thrilling car, the GoldPlay also hosts the M Sports Seats as standard. These feature thicker side bolsters and head restraints and are upholstered in Black Perforated Dakota leather with a contrasting golden yellow Giallo Oro stitching and piping. Gold-colored stitching is also applied to the instrument panel, center console, and outer and center armrests of the front seats.

The BMW X2 GoldPlay Edition can only be had in X28i-guise with your choice of two- or all-wheel-drive. The turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine produces 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, sent to the wheels via an eight-speed Sport Steptronic torque converter. In the sDrive, you'll achieve a 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds, dropping to 6.3 seconds in the xDrive.

Key standard features on this trim include dynamic LED headlights, BMW Navigation with the 8.8-inch infotainment screen, and a catalog of safety features such as Active Driving Assistant with Frontal Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and more. The model pictured here is the PHEV xDrive25e which will be sold in Europe but the visual cues are likely to mimic those of the US model, which will begin production in March of this year.
