The all-new 2023 Ford Super Duty makes its debut tomorrow, and we've already seen glimpses of the truck from several teasers, including one that confirms the return of a Power Stroke diesel engine option. This reveal is big news for the state of Kentucky where the Super Duty is assembled, so much that the governor has proclaimed the reveal date (September 27, 2022) will be known as KenTRUCKy Day. Furthermore, the entire state (for one day only) will be known as KenTRUCKy. Be sure to address your outgoing mail accordingly.
"To honor Ford's investment and this great Team Kentucky partner, I have officially proclaimed, September 27, 2022, KenTRUCKy Day in the commonwealth," said Governor Andy Beshear. "Kentuckians have been building Ford trucks since the Model T, and we are thrilled this tradition is going to continue with the all-new Ford F-Series Super Duty."
"Ford's roots run deep in Kentucky. We hope Kentuckians take just as much pride in building America's favorite truck as they do in their basketball, bourbon, and thoroughbreds," added John Savona, Vice President Americas manufacturing and labor affairs Ford Blue. The company even teased the new truck once again, this time with a bucket of KFC in front of it.
Ford is the largest vehicle producer in Kentucky with the truck plant employing 8,500 people. Overall, the Ford Motor Company supports more than 120,000 jobs total around the commonwealth state. Ford has done business there for 109 years, culminating in a whopping $11.8 billion GDP contribution. The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling pickup in America for 45 years, and it shows no signs of slowing down.
In addition to its already substantial investment, the Ford Motor Company and its partners will invest another $5.8 billion to build a new factory called the BlueOval SK Battery Park. This plant will be responsible for building batteries that will power next-generation Ford and Lincoln vehicles and add more than 5,000 jobs in Kentucky. Of course, these batteries will not power the new Super Duty, as it will continue to use gasoline and diesel engines.
Ford will reveal the next-generation Super Duty at 7:15 pm EDT in Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby horse race. The event will be live streamed on the company's YouTube channel, which has been linked above. We can't wait to see what engines lie under the hood, including a rumored 6.8-liter V8 that would sit below the 7.3-liter Godzilla motor. Ford will have to electrify the Super Duty eventually, but at least for now, this generation should stick with old fashioned internal combustion power.
