A prime opportunity to own a member of the celebrated Hypercar Holy Trinity recently presented itself. The Porsche 918 Spyder is arguably the best of the bunch, thanks to its all-wheel-drive system. The Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1 were both rear-wheel drive and, therefore, ax murderers on wheels.

Only 918 of these Porsches were built and this particular example is number 836 of 918. It's even more special thanks to the fitment of the optional Weissach Package. Of all the 918s Porsche produced, only 230 were kitted with this package which retailed for $84,000. It added more aggressive aerodynamics, exposed carbon fiber, and an extended rear diffuser.

It's also a one-owner car, delivered to Porsche of Downtown Los Angeles in August 2015. Since then, the original owner has put less than 1,000 miles on the clock. We don't know if we'd be able to have the same levels of self-restraint, to be honest.

The car is finished in Liquid Metal Silver combined with Authentic Onyx Black leather with silver piping. The exterior color was a special order and increased the price by $63,000. To protect this expensive paint option, the seller treated it with ceramic coating and added a transparent protective film over it.

Powertrain-wise, it's stock standard. The 4.6-liter V8 hybrid powertrain produces 874 horsepower - a fair amount more than a modern-day plug-in hybrid like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. One of the few major upgrades is an Inconel exhaust system. Other aftermarket accessories include a luggage set with carbon-fiber accents, a Schroth six-point harness, and an AC battery charger.

The previous owner added all sorts of optional extras, including a suspension lift for the front for additional clearance. It also comes with a Stinger radar/laser detector, though we can't think why you'd need that in a 918...

Even though the mileage is low, the service history has been kept up to date. Porsche replaced the spark plugs, ignition coils, air filters, and intake pressure sensors in March 2020. At the same time, the 265/35ZR20 front and 325/30ZR21 rear tires were replaced with new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The car will also be sold with its original window sticker. With all the options included, the total the first owner paid came to $1,049,200. The current bid stands at $2,025,000, with just a few hours left to go at the time of writing.

That means this 918 will be the most expensive ever sold, easily eclipsing the previous record for a 918.
