The age of high-performance SUVs is upon us - Ferrari surprisingly joining the fray with the Purosangue, and Aston Martin claims to have the most powerful luxury SUV, the DBX707. Lamborghini is also a player with its Urus and its hotter Performante variant that recently performed an impressive lap in Germany.

In the latest Sport Auto track video, the Lamborghini Urus Performante clocked a 1:55.8 lap time around the Grand Prix layout of the Hockenheim in Germany. It was faster by a tenth of a second than the Aston Martin Vantage Roadster, which completed the 4.5-km track in 1:55.9.

Propelling the vehicle is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, with the Performante version cranking the power up to 657 horsepower, and the torque remaining at 627 lb-ft. This package is also 47 kg lighter than the Urus S, allowing the SUV to achieve a 3.3-second 0-60 mph acceleration time. Moreover, the top speed is rated at 190 mph.

With the standard use of an all-wheel-drive system, the Urus Performante got off the line quicker and helped the driver attack corners with more traction. Sending power from the engine to all four wheels was the famed 8-speed ZF automatic transmission.

However, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is still the fastest SUV the German auto magazine tested at Hockenheim with a 1:55.1 lap time, which is 0.7 seconds faster than the Urus.

The McLaren Senna still holds the time to beat with a 1:40.8 lap time at Hockenheim, followed by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series and Manthey-Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR with lap times of 1:43.3 and 1:43.5, respectively.

As impressive as the Urus Performante's track performance was, Lamborghini is introducing an even hotter variant next year with the Urus plug-in hybrid. Rumors suggest that the hybrid SUV could make a whopping 820 horsepower.
